About Judith

A bit of Judith's spirit and a spark of her soul are invested into each piece she creates. Visit her studio, and it is plain to see that her love of life is reflected in her relationships, her home, and every strand she places into her art.

Her passion for exploration and innovation has led her to create ethereal nuno felted pieces with textural and dramatic surface effects. She uses luxurious natural fibres, fabrics and her own shimmering hand-spun silk yarn and hand-paints each piece as if it were a watercolour, further enhancing the inherent beauty of nuno felt.

Judith works from her studio on the idyllic island of Salt Spring, British Columbia, where she lives with her husband, Michael, and their little Havanese dog, Tica, who is a "heartbeat" always at her feet! She enjoys sharing her love for felting by teaching others her unique techniques and encouraging her students to explore and expand their own creativity. She occasionally organizes workshops on Salt Spring Island and is willing to travel within Canada or internationally to teach workshops.

Judith's work is available for purchase in her shop. A few pieces may be available through this website, or contact Judith to commission a piece.

A bit of information about the Nuno felting process: Nuno felt results from the merging of wool fibre with, in this case, silk fabric. During the felting process, wool fibres are agitated vigorously, causing them to migrate and entangle with the fabric weave and “capture” any other fibre or fabric embellishments with which they come into contact. As the wool fibres intertwine more tightly, they condense or "shrink," causing the non-shrinking fibres and fabrics to contort. A loose assemblage of fluffy wool fibres and rivers of silk fibre and material transforms into a sumptuous and shimmering new fabric. This exquisite new fabric is durable, lightweight, and drapes beautifully.
